We believe the Bible allows for the autonomy of each local church, and that the leadership structure for the local church is that of elder-led congregationalism. We are currently in a season of transition in order to bring our practice in alignment with this belief. We appointed our first elder-council during the summer of 2018. In the future we hope to continue to cultivate and train a multitude of elder-qualified men to serve at Kahului Baptist Church and around the world as church planters, faithful pastors, and missionaries.

"And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed." Acts 14:23

Randy Pauley
Pastor

Randy grew up in a military family and has desired to proclaim the Gospel and serve the people of Hawaii since he was a senior in high school. He came to Maui in 2009 and served as a Police Officer with the Maui Police Department while serving as a member at Kahului Baptist Church. He became the pastor in 2013 and has joyfully been serving ever since. He is a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield MO. and is pursuing (slowly) an M.Div. through the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He has been married to Brittney since 2010, and they have three young children, one dog, one cat, and an ever-rotating assortment of spiders and geckos.

Bill Staton
Pastor

Bill's testimony is a beautiful picture of a God who pursues and transforms His people into conduits of mercy. He was saved as a result of the preschool ministry of KBC in 1995 while his son was a student. He subsequently joined the church and has been serving in various capacities for the past 23 years. Most recently, he has been a faithful deacon, teaches Sunday School, counsels members as needed, leads our prison ministry, works behind the scenes, and conducts various other forms of outreach and service in our community. He has extensive training in anger management, mediation, marital counseling, and an ever-growing grasp on the sufficiency of the Scripture to equip God's people for every good work. Bill and Lena have been married since 1985 and have two adult children, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Nick Tanaka
Pastoral Apprentice

Nick is originally from Oahu and has been a member of Kahului Baptist Church since 2008. He has faithfully and voluntarily served in numerous capacities since that time. Currently, he leads our church in singing on Sunday mornings, leads a small group, preaches when asked, and serves in whatever capacity is needed. His former place of employment was with the Maui County Federal Credit Union and as of November 2019 will begin serving full-time as a pastoral apprentice with the aim of being affirmed in 2-3 years as an Elder at Kahului Baptist Church. Nick has been married to Lilly since 2011 and they have three young children. Additionally, Nick loves meat and is legendary on the grill.
